  • Sex and music

I'm not one to be obsessed with music, I don't listen to it very much. I did my homework during my adolescence and scoured through the genres and styles. Listened to noise, the weirdest scary experimental music... electro, pop. indie, folk, what have ya.

So I'm one to have a distance with music and there's something extremely absurd with music in the way it talks about sex. I don't know about USA or other parts of the world but here, on the radio, we pretty regularly have songs that are plain out about sex and no one seems disturbed. I'm talking about songs like Lady Marmalade, I Kissed a Girl, whatever... you probably all have one that'll come to mind. Nowadays, we got the summer hit Despacito playing repeatedly on radio. It's about oral sex ffs!!

I'm not a prude. No, I have been mentally ill, however, and during my first psychosis I thought that for some reason my brain was fucked up from lack of sex. Sensing the emergency, I happened once to plain out approach a group of 3 girls (in broad daylight, in public, nothing scary for them) and asked if any of them would have sex with me. They said no, of course... OF COURSE! and a story unfolded as how displaced that was, not involving authorities. Anyway! Those are people who aren't disturbed by music that talks about sex and plays all day. It's completely absurd, the double standard. I'm not complaining, I know how displaced that was. That is an example. There are plenty.

    tl;dr
Public radio playing in public areas talks about sex in a raw manner and no one bats an eye (it's very popular!). Some guy happens to do that, everybody freaks out.
    I find it absurd.

I think people don't pay attention that closely to lyrics, and even if they do I think hearing about sex in a song or watching it in a movie or even in pornography is quite different than the real deal. It's not the real deal or intimate or anything, sure it's still dirty but you're not really involved in it. To actually have sex with a random person is quite different that just hearing it. I do think it is absurd how dirty songs and media is today though.

I agree with dylan in terms of I don't really pay attention to what the lyrics of a song actually mean and treat the voice more as just another instrument with its own rhythmic and melodic lines. Not only that, but music is just another art medium and people know not to take it personally, just in the same way as if you were to look at a painting.

I think people expect other people to be able to understand the differences in the social situations. This goes without saying, but a song about sex is simply song about sex; nothing more. Talking about sex with someone is just radically different. Besides, Tric is right. Pop music today is more about the beat than the lyrical content.

That fact that you find this a problem tells me you're still mentally ill. Seek help.

Not much more of a problem than an absurdity. Themes in music are often cringy. Just thinking of love songs.... they sound so desperate. What to say of the "I can't feel my face" song, which was about cocaine. Violent rap playing like they're talking about unicorns and flowers.

I already have all the help I need. I've been living autonomously since May and a social worker visits me regularly. Thanks for caring though.

that's because the music industry is run by the same Jews responsible for the degenerate media in Hollywood, hence why foreign music is much less pozzed
