Holy crap, I was in the original closed beta test for Face of Mankind. That was years ago. It is still in the beta phases? Wow.

History and important changes

Closed Beta testing started in April 2004, and the first phase of Open Beta started in February 2005. The second phase of Open Beta testing ran from 9 December 2005 to March 23, 2006, ready for the launch on March 27, 2006.

Face of Mankind was shipped for retail sale on 31 August 2006; both downloadable and retail versions were available.

The Face of Mankind official portal was hit by a series of DDoS attacks during the month of May 2007; The attacks made the official portal unavailable throughout the month. These attacks were cited as playing a part in the eventual closure of Face of Mankind as a financial venture. The perpetrators were eventually arrested after an investigation by the Scotland Yard Computer Crime Unit. [5]

On November 2, 2007, Face of Mankind publisher Ojom ceased support for the development and operation of the game. Duplex announced an attempt to continue the game without a publisher; further news and developments were announced on November 14, 2007, detailing how Duplex is going to be reworking the game mechanics in order to be able to fund it. Around June 23rd, 2008, Marko Dieckmann declared on the official website that development of Face of mankind Rebirth has been canceled.

On October 4, 2008, Duplex Systems changed, once again, the image on the Face of Mankind website to state Face of Mankind, Coming Back Soon. It is unknown at this point whether Duplex actually intends to re-release the game. Many are speculating that it’s just an attempt to deter people from the Emulator created for the game.

On December 1, 2008, www.faceofmankind.com was launched as well as forums. The new website claims to be working on and will soon be launching Face of Mankind as well as a new cooperation between Duplex Systems and Nexeon Technologies, the same company that would have provided hosting for the ill-fated emulation.[7]

On January 12, 2009, Duplex and NeXeon announced that the Closed Beta version of Face of Mankind will be released on February 20, 2009.[8]

On February 20, 2009, Duplex and NeXeon launch the Closed Beta version of the game. [9]

On October 25th, 2009, closed beta 4 opened, thus allowing anyone who registered on the website before October 12th to play in it.This has been classified by duplex as “A stress test”.

I’ll never touch Face of Mankind again … I shot a pistol in a hallway (no one around) on accident and then I got swarmed by people all of which had some sort of gun that would blow my brains out in an instant. Ah good times … lol

probably LED, they wear blue…its a crime to discharge a weapon on a colony policed by the global dominion…you shoulda explained urself.

They just kept yelling “Put away your weapon.” … so I just sat down. Also, I was in the middle of no where and they were all regular players. I didn’t see any wearing blue. xD
I should have just started shooting at 'em to see how far I’d get. Heh

Yeah, except I had hit random buttons at the time to even get it out yet alone shoot. Again though, Face of Mankind is set up quite nicely. I like how it operates closer to a realistic approach.

Also A Boy and His Blob was amusing. Though I only played it for a few minutes at a friend’s house. lol
