While we’re on the subject of cup synonyms it’s a shame Tumbler is already an established name.
I like the idea, “Growler”.
Hear me out:
I like the idea of paying homage to Graal in the name, but I agree with Codr in that it shouldn’t be so banal. A growler is a jug, typically, of beer (64 fl oz to be exact). The reason I like Growler is it’s kind of like a grail, in that it holds liquids, but instead of having religious overtones, a growler is way more profane. Also, it keeps the “Gr” sound at the beginning, but it doesn’t immediately conjure up an image of Graal (unless maybe you picture someone drunk (drunk from a growler of beer!) trying to say Graal: graaawwl(er)). Plus, it’s short: two syllables.
That’s my two-cents. I don’t mind Chalice either.
I can suppprt Growler
I’d suggest Phoenix, but you know… already in use here.
Also not liquid container themed.
Because that is a requirement i gues?
If I were willing to go with that name, I would absolutely make it just “Grawl” because mocking Graal is the best part.
A growler is also slang for a lady’s nether regions:

Then Growler it is
I agree with Spooon. Why not just call it “Open Graal”, as that’s what we are? A free, open source alternative to Graal.
because Mr. Portha will have his “international lawyers” dealing with us if it’s called that.
There’s a reason why we still exist. His “World Wide Attorney” can’t touch us.
The main reason most of us stick around, persevering with a dying (dead) game is because of the nostalgia we have for the good times. Most of us stick around for the friendships graal has caused us to build, if we suddenly make the shift to change away from that, we’ll be just another 2D game engine, of which there are many.
I don’t exactly go around looking for them, but I haven’t seen any that offer what Graal does, in the way that it does.
I swear this is like the second guy to come on the forums to fish out help on making a client scheme. Maybe this is how unix found stefan Troll bait #amirite?
Yet he is the only one to completely outline his plans for the project and update us on his progress. Other than Nalin.
I was going to respond to the client part until I saw this.

Anyone can talk, has anyone seen anything? I’m just as guilty of saying i’m going to do something without ever completing or showing anyone the project.
Last thing i’ve probably done for GR was the C# npc-server, and I stopped because of a bug with npcs (which I think has been fixed by now, unsure).. but yeah, long time ago.
It’s definitely reasonable to assume that nothing will materialize from this, and I’ve said so already myself. All I can really do is assure you that I’m still very driven to make this happen, and have been actively working on it when I can.
I’ve also continued to try to keep Cadavre interested for when he has the time to do some more stuff. I’m not sure how that’s going to turn out, though.
You should continue it!
make a repository
Better we know about what’s “probably” going on than not know at all. Before, all we ever knew was that somebody was working on it, be it either an npc-server or new client (we didn’t know exactly) and crossed our fingers to one day magically witness it’s finalization. I’ve even spoke to one of the supposed developers on xfire (whose name I forgot, he wasn’t on the forums much at all) who told me it was near completion and even gave me access to his repository.
This was what, 4 years ago perhaps longer? Needless to say he basically disappeared.
At the very least Codr interacts with the community and asks to see what we want implemented. Yeah, anybody can talk, but I’m sure he’s done what he says. Or is he labelled a developer for nothing?
