You can use the separated client that comes with the official graal, or you can use the old built-in editor by going into offline mode and pressing F4. Either one is okay, but you’re going to be stuck with the old editor’s abilities given its also the client you play with.

As for your tileset problem, make sure your images use palettes that are either 8, 16, or 256 colors. “16 million” isn’t compatable.

It’ll probably say Training instead of Offline :]

8 - 256 colors hmm thx thats most likey my issue

at this point ive had just about enough pain from attempting to change tilesets I think im just going to use the default tileset with the level gen

You can get “Animagic”, a somewhat no longer available simple gif making tool. (draw the image in MS Paint persay, then paste it into animagic then save), animagic saves with a 256 color palette regardless.

Personally, I draw with MS Paint, and use Paint Shop Pro for saving pngs (and alpha maps, but our graal doesn’t support it.)
I do everything with Paint Shop Pro.
I just prefer the ‘accuracy’ of MS Paint, lol

Photoshop CS4 Did the trick.
It was quite simple to use the grid to know a basic “wheres what level”
then brush in the mountains and such although without keeping it fully abstract i cant come up with a good map design, I have a bad habit of drawing symmetrical.

I have a bad habit of making symmetrical levels…thats why I tend to redo inside levels quite a lot.

A good habit if you’re making RTS Maps, Lol

Symmetry, indoors, isn’t really that bad. Symmetry outdoors isn’t very natural. And that’s my problem, as well; I have an OCD with symmetry.

RTS maps all depend on witch rts but i agree a nice symmetrical map is awesome to game in something like spring

I did finish a layout to test the level gen out
and it came out perfect i was surprised

I’m surprised that map-image didn’t crash the levelgenerator. :stuck_out_tongue:

Aren’t the pictures supposed to be 60x60 (or 160x160, something with 60)?

64, but they’re also supposed to be ‘16 colors’

You’re not supposed to use the paintbrush to draw something like that since that will paint all kinds of nuances of the color itself and the generator can only process the one color.

It came out to be 256 maps.
every 64 x 64 px is a map so 16 maps x 64 px is 1024 px so the image has to be 1024 x 1024 px or 16 maps x 16 maps.
to make your over world bigger or smaller just add or remove 64 px at a time but make sure its sermetical(ex 512 x 512, 1024 x 1024)

when made in photoshop its really easy to make one(maybe not a good one but)
configer your grid in photoshop to match 64 px and you can get really close to ground level editing

as for using brush or whatever tool it don’t realy matter as long as the RGB scale is correct for mountain, grass and junk.

Theres not much else to it then that. as for the level gen crashing on larger overworlds makes sense but that sounds more like a lack of hardware issue.
I’m sitting on a custom built my specs are of course on my xfire profile

oh and make sure you export it as a .gif

It’s easier to just make it a GIF file.

what I meant with the paintbrush was the fading of colors, aka opacity. the pen is better.

Oh… like in PhotoShop.

The word you’re looking for is blur/softness
