I know we’re spread thinner than butter for talent around here. So instead of asking straight out for recruits, I’m taking a different approach.
Project Legacy LAT Contest!
Here are the rules:
- Entrants must provide a 2x2 group of overworld levels made from scratch, specifically for Legacy. I don’t want to use levels that have already appeared on some other server. They can feature any terrain you want, but beware that Legacy already has a forest area and a lake area.
- The “style” of the levels I’m looking for is Classic. I know it’s popular lately to shatter the grid and have levels with eighteen billion complications for every feature, but I’d rather have you keep it old-school. A good rule of thumb is to stick loosely to 2x2 and 4x4 “grids” for object formations and ground decoration. It reinforces the old Zelda feel.
- Know how to use mountains. If I see you do it wrong your entry will be rejected.
- Don’t abuse deep water. It’s pretty likely that players will be running around on these levels trying to kill each other. Easy-access, abundant deep water is an attractive cop-out since swimming makes you invulnerable. I’ll judge this on a case by case basis as needed.
- Include a blank NPC with your name on it in your levels, so I’ll know who made them.
So what do you get if you win?
Your levels will be added to the overworld in an appropriate spot. (They may get modified to fit with adjacent levels or act as border levels if required.) Your name will be recorded somewhere in the game world. You also get your choice of head, sword and shield to add to the server, provided that they are drawn well enough and fit with the classic fantasy setting of the world. I’m toying with the idea of handing out “Contest Winner” guild tags for bragging rights, creating collectible plush doll items in winners’ images, and maybe granting a player house to the best winner overall, but we’ll see where that goes.
