I thought it’d be fun if I took the overworld from Link’s Awakening(Gameboy Zelda) and converted it into Link to the Past graphics. I hope to convert the whole thing, but I don’t know if I’ll ever finish it.
The graphics aren’t a simple compressed version though, some things are larger, while some are noticeably smaller, between the two versions. For example, signs/rocks are the same size as the player, and only 1/4th the size of trees in LA, while in LttP, signs/rocks are about 1/6th the size of trees, and trees are pretty large compared to the player as well. Not to mention cliffing is WAY different between the two games(LA features more ‘tower-like’ cliffing, where the sides of the cliffs are not visible). So really, it’s proven to be a lot harder than I thought, but still enjoyable
Biggest problem is going to be filling in the tiles that LttP can not provide… luckily it DOES provide most of what I need, but I suspect I will have to do some custom ones as well.
there’s a more hi-res version of the LTTP tileset that was made for the Eradia Online server a long time ago by Crow. could be better to use that.
Edit:
Might actually have been done by Angelu, but I think Crow helped out. The Eradia version of the v2.1.7.1 client has pictures of it in the login screen.
Well, the graal characters is too hires for that type of lo-res tileset. Maybe make a lo-res body, head and shield and force the player to play as link but in different colors.

Could make a low res “head and body” out of just the body image alone
(Ie: include the head on the body sprite sheet)
Mind you this means some replaceani work, but you’ll be able to set the player’s cap with something like setcoat or setsleeves
Ya, but the boomerang was at the end of a long trading quest, so completely optional to get. Otherwise you had to kill the boss with 40 arrows to the eye (not to mention this wasn’t really ever hinted at in the game, to my knowledge)
I hate that part of the game. Particularly because it shows up after the dungeon you get the flippers, so a huge part of the overworld is opened up, but everytime you change levels you hear that annoying sound and the ghost keeps bugging you… really kills the fun of exploration.
