Onoes! Wii update again...

http://wiibrew.org/wiki/System_Menu_3.4

Version 3.4 of the System Menu was announced on November 17, 2008, by Nintendo sending notices to the Wii Message Board. The announcement lists these changes:

* USB keyboard support in Mii Channel
* Enhanced parental controls
*Twilight Hack version 0.1beta1 cannot be copied to the console.

Two other changes have been noted:

* Improved SD card read/write speed
* Improved disc reading

Update appears to include IOS50 (used by menu) and IOS254 (a copy of IOS9, to block PatchMii).
Nintendo has updated the Wii Network Service Privacy Policy along side the update. The most notable change details how your Wii may download updates without your permission or even without notifying you first.

Old Policy

“To ensure that your Wii Console is operating properly and efficiently, we may download updates, patches, upgrades and similar software to your Wii Console. In addition, we may disable unauthorized or illegal software that has been placed on your Wii Console without notifying you where necessary, in order to comply with applicable laws, assist law enforcement, protect us and our customers, and prevent the use and distribution of software obtained through improper channels.”

New Policy

“We may without notifying you, download updates, patches, upgrades and similar software to your Wii Console and may disable unauthorized or illegal software placed on your Wii Console to ensure that your Wii Console is operating properly and efficiently, comply with applicable laws, assist law enforcement, protect us and our customers, or prevent the use and distribution of software obtained through improper channels.” (editor’s emphasis)

It’s also said they now monitor what you do online.

Stay off the WiiNet!
Stay off the WiiNet!
Be more specific or I’ll just delete your post (spam).

Well, WiiNet is the internet on the Wii. Stay off of it so you dont get unwanted updates :slight_smile:

I haven’t done the last 2 updates, don’t want to lose homebrew functionality and see no real reason to update.
I think the only homebrew affected by the updates is DVDx. And Patchmii. All the updates have left the Homebrew Channel alone, which is good. Anyways, a new Twilight Hack was released for the 3.4 firmware. Nintendo fucked up again.

Bootmii will be the answer to all the problems: http://hackmii.com/2008/10/bootmii-the-beginning/. The only thing is that the homebrew devs are trying to figure out how to prevent pirates from using their work. They have some interesting ideas, but it takes time to obfuscate their code and whatnot. Look forward to it, though.

Yes. This is all good news and I never posted about it, however, I wanted to add for the stupid people out there.

If you want to block any new updates then go visit wiibrew. If you update to 3.4 and don’t get the block, Nintendo WILL make you update rather you want to or not and you may lose homebrew with any newer updates.
I don’t think Nintendo will ever force a firmware update on somebody without their permission first. Nintendo would be opening themselves up to a lot of pissed off people when their Wii’s brick themselves due to power loss. That is why they ask you first. So you can make sure your power won’t go off while it updates. If it does, gg, bricked Wii.
This is true. As of 3.4 that is. That is why there are some things in bold it’s there new policy, check out Wiibrew for more.

I just updated my wii! BRRZZANK!

(Note, I don’t own a Wii, it was purely for innuendo.)
