Player trading?

What would be the best way to transfer strings between players? In this case strings representing items.
So far I've only had two thoughts on this:
A trade house using a server string or two
triggering actions back and forth between two players…?
Both seem like they could be exploited easily and with enough abuse, although maybe not as much using server strings. If anyone else has a suggestion or help on this issue that would be the bees knees.

Triggeraction is what I think people would normally do. Server. strings could work too, but I wouldn't recommend it normally. However, in a previous post, it was mentioned that there is a problem concerning the lead player with shoot and triggeraction. It'll work for everyone else, just not the lead player on the level. Or something like that
