Slot System Thing

An operating system.

He’s telling a beginner programmer to learn C because a fucking operating system was written in C.

YO DUDE LEARN ASSEMBLY OR STRAIGHT BINARY BECAUSE THATS REAL LOW LEVEL YO, I HEARD ITS THE BEST LANGUAGE CAUSE ITS SUPER FAST AND STUFF, AND MS DOS WAS WRITTEN IN ASSEMBLY SO ITS PROVEN TO BE GOOD

inb4 you get a pot smashed over your head

Guys. C was written in C++ and php.

By the way, both, Harvard University and Bombay University use C in their course: Introduction for Computer Science. They teach it first for the reason given before.
You guys were talking about the benefits of knowing a programming language before scripting in GS1. As how I say, many languages are derivative from C, you could take a look at Java or C++.

I said Mac OS X Mavericks just as an example of the force it has still today.

Jatz, could you please tell me why I supposely do not know what I’m talking about?

PHP was written in HTML and GS2

C these days is only really useful when you need to squeeze absolutely every ounce of performance out of an application.
The learning curve is incredibly steep compared to other languages, as well as the concept of memory management.
If someone is struggling with GS1 they have no hope with C. If someone was looking to learn a language I’d recommend C# or Java, as they’re a nice middleground between high-level and low-level languages. My assumption that you have no programming knowledge is based on the fact that you recommended c as a viable beginner language. The fact that universities teach it is because most universities teach outdated course matter, due to the fact that the software engineering industry changes so violently, so quickly.

There are universities that teach Visual Basic still, to this day. That doesn’t mean it’s a language that should be used outside of a very specific use case.

And yes, before you ask, I know C.

Ya I do get your point, and I think it is pretty valid. I am not a software engineer nor have any extensive experience.
But as far as my experience goes, after I took those courses and learned C my level of comprehension and learning speed of other programming languages has severely increased.

Well thanks Jatz for explaining!

PROBLEM SOLVED THERE IS ALREADY A THREAD FOR C++ AND CRAP

Pfft. C is easy.

I learned most from Python 2. Searching the internet, it was the most appraised beginner’s language and I don’t regret trying it.

Then I went to learn assembly because I wanted to get a grasp of what low level was, I even bought a raspberry pi because of a nice tutorial on how to write your own (very basic) OS in assembly for it (it’s a RISC machine if I recall well). It was a disaster, even following the tutorial I managed to get it wrong on, like, step 2 and never understood what was wrong.

So my advice is learn python 2.

Was very useful, it’s quick to get through even if you do as it says and type everything it tells you to type. Only downside is that you probably won’t use it much after you’re done playing around with it.

Python syntax makes my brain cry.

Python isn’t for the week

Weekends only

I use it ere day

Another thread derailed by 2ndwolf talking about coding. This thread is about GScript. Fuck everything else and fuck you.

On the plus side, at least he’s giving you stuff to post about.

I suppose.

Spooon, the thread was dying anyway.
And yeah, looking back at some old python coding I did, the syntax does look horrible.
But it’s appraised, and for good reasons; just thought, after the bad advice about learning C was given, that hinting at a better direction would be good.

So let it die and make your own fucking thread.
