Transparency Failure

For some reason, my client no longer initiates transparencies. I've tried different downloaded clients but they all do the same thing.

I attached a screenshot I took on Sentinel, though, the issue happens on all servers and the editor.

Re: Transparency Failure

Whoa.
Well normally that glitch happened when some special effect that required a directx buffer (zooming, stretching, setcolor) was happening, it often fucked up transparencies, randomly on many cards.

But uh. passive things like heads, hears, and everything else fucking up on your screen is untouched by that buffer…

Did you mangle your directx version recently, switch to a different OS?

Note to self: Get a more universal background color.

Re: Transparency Failure

I haven't touched my DirectX in some time. And that shouldn't be an issue as it's been stable until today. However, I will try reinstalling to see if the issue is resolved.

The only change I did make was I updated my video drivers a couple days ago. But, I don't think that would cause such an error to occur. Guess I'll have to cross my fingers that reinstalling DX will fix it.

That did the trick. I'm assuming that the new ATI drivers overwrote something essential for DirectX and upon reinstalling, that file was reinstated.

If anyone else has this issue, now you know what to do. lol

Re: Transparency Failure

I've seen it temporarily, sometimes when I open Beholder's QMenu a weapon or two would be messed up, but after closing and reopening the menu it would look fine. Think I've seen it happen just like that in the playerlist a few times too.

Re: Transparency Failure

funny thing I've experienced something similar on waffles server. In the beginning area after the noob does a few quests, you have to get on a boat and it warps you to another place but just before it warps you everything has a dimming affect to it which goes into black. A Admin had warped me right when it was in the dimming affect to his spot and it carried the affect with me. the affect did not get to finish and therefore it didn't go away. The fix for me was to log out then back into server wasn't a big thing =P. Just a minor glitch and definitely not like the problem Koroshiya had.

Re: Transparency Failure

Yeah, this happens to me with Beholder's QMenu. Whats funny months ago it worked like a charm and today it does what you said Awakened, I don't think its our falut, its something Beholder recently did to it.

Re: Transparency Failure

Oi, I haven't done crap all. All transparancies are fine.
I tried using other methods for transparancies (RGB 0,0,0) but the glitch still happened to people. Its a fluke, a directX error this version of the Graal Client has, and ATI card users suffer more from it.

Re: Transparency Failure

I have some transparancy issues on my server too. Nothing major, but in case it's related, I figure I should mention something, in case it can help.

But sometimes, the flames in my fireplaces start to glitch on the transparancy of the glowing flame. Not always, just once in a while. The glitch is the with the image, not the lighting effects (though they could be related, dunno). When it glitches, you see the transparent part of the flame image glowing too

Re: Transparency Failure

Zoomeffect, and Effectmode use a buffer which is poorly handled in the version of DirectX compiled at that time.

Most graphics cards, old and new, will experiences random transparency quirks - this will happen more occasionally on ATI graphics cards.

ATI - OpenGL (cross platform) Dominant
nVidia - DirectX (windows) Dominant

Re: Transparency Failure

Ah, that explains it. For a glow effect, I have a showimg of light2.png that uses zoomeffect. And effectmode to create shadow effects from the light, lol. My entire fireplace setup is fuxor, woo

Re: Transparency Failure

Hm transparency is very buggy for me with this client, I'm using a nvidia card right now… guess I should try playing with disabled directx support then

Re: Transparency Failure

I've seen that type of transparency error before…
I forget what caused it or how it was undone.

Yours is one of the unique cases. As things that don't have buffers used on them (zoom/effectmode/colors) are also failing to have transparencies. Including the native head i8mage, sprites.png, and state.png…

Check your Graal Version to make sure its not 2.1.7.0
Though I do think you're using the proper 2.1.7.1 version…

Does this continue after a restart?

Re: Transparency Failure

That's exactly what mine was doing, before. For some reason, an admin is following my posts and deleting my attachments (unless they auto-delete after so long. Boo).

Even if you think they're up-to-date, (re)install your latest graphics drivers and then (re)install the latest DirectX drivers, in that order. That's what I had to do to get mine working, again.

Re: Transparency Failure

Er, nah, this was probably a month ago, a certain 'someone' deleted all attachments.

Hint: You add this to peanut butter and…

Re: Transparency Failure

and… joey?

I don't think so, I deleted it because I seen a trace of an edited attachment – for the sake of more possible… I just deleted all. virus's / trojan's suck ty.

sry

Re: Transparency Failure

And then you had serious trouble adding the old gserver 'revs'.

Re: Transparency Failure

proper 2.1.7.1 client is installed and I reinstalled the latest DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

also the problem doesn't appear all the time… just when the player hits on certain areas of the levelboard… watch this movie to see what I mean:

Re: Transparency Failure

Thats a very peculuar one…

  1. What is your Graphic's card? (ie: Mine is an nVidia FX 5500)
  2. What OS are you using? (Myself? Windows XP SP2)

But really… I have no fucking clue what could be causing that O_o
Check your nVidia drivers/settings, make sure its not trying to antialias graal or something.

Re: Transparency Failure

haha, looks for damn familar, when the offical graal was still v2 I forget who but they removed this weird fucking client and it fucked up all the heads and bodies, it was a 'trainer' kind of client.

Re: Transparency Failure

Whoa, that's screwed up! Like Dangerless said, try another client. We have links to several download sources. Keep trying until you find a good one. If that doesn't solve the issue, you have malware interference (most likely).
