Before posting this, I spent the past 4 hours reading the FAQ, going through the tutorials and directions on setting up the serveroptions, searching these forums, contacting my ISP, and trying every combination of options that were presented and that I could think of.
The issue I am experiencing is that my gserver can only be connected to from my own computer. Any other computer on the internet cannot connect to it.
I am using gserver 2.2.2 and also the 2.2.2 client.
I checked all three levels of firewall settings that are on my computer and their are either disabled or set to accept port 14802. I also told the one firewall program I have that allows by application name, to allow gserver2.exe.
When I start the gserver it displays a message that it able to connect to the list server, but my server name does not appear in the list server in any of the tabs. I can type in the server name to connect from my local machine.
I have verison Fios and have set my modem/router port forwarding with a profile Graal 14802 -> 14802 TCP.
In my serveroptions.txt file I tried leaving the localip value to auto, and I tried setting it to the static IP of my ipV4 address (I made it static through the network control panel according to directions on portforward.com) and am running win 7.
I also tried setting the serverip value to the ip address that the internet sees my computer as (external ip) but that makes no difference either.
I created a server under my account name on hosting.graal.in and when starting it, it tells me that my server started but its status is offline.
Please advise.
GServer has UPnP now, so you shouldn’t have to really port forward nowadays, may tend to bitch if you do. Try setting a unique port, keep IP as Auto, don’t bother port forwarding this time around. And hopefully it should work unless the DSL Router (A modem that thinks its a router) is getting in the way.
Hah. As for the hosting.graal.in, it’s not working for any server after server… 99? And the deleted servers don’t make that number decrease. So its probably around 150 by now.
I did not even know it existed (until just now, I have registered my server name).
But I did visit this page http://www.graal.in/playerworlds
And like most ‘news’ web pages, any news or information of relevance is listed below the bold or caps heading, the links in the small font up above the heading were not even noticed by myself until just now. Many sites place google ads in such a location, so I have subconciously adapted to ignore links in that format and small font size. A simple redesign of that page content to make it more user friendly would be of great benefit. I would especially never think to look to the right of a list of links beyond ‘Old List’ as that implies the information related to that is outdated and likely no longer works, but is there for mere nostalgic purposes.
These are intended as constructive comments, to help see opportunities to improve your site and have fewer people asking the same questions repeatedly (and from reading the forums it looks like repeat questions are a common issue). Its to help life be a little easier for you. I think its great what you have here with graal reborn.
— UPDATE —
I followed Beholder’s advice, and using the 2.3.1 gserver instead of the 2.2.2 version, Sanstrata is now listed on the Bronze tab, and I was able to conenct to it from outside my local machine Thanks very much! Now to put the levels on there …
Woo, Sanstrata. The home of the Blue Orb. Seen *Shaun around here once or twice.
You betcha! Shaun Elementis? Canadian level maker extroadinaire? Cool! For now there are some old original levels on there, including the ‘escape the dungeon’ intro quest. As I have time later (after work and such) I will piece together some of the best parts. Some levels online now will have their 10 year birthday May 27th this year, timestamp of before 9/11 0_o
That be the one, no idea he was Canadian. Knew him since Dolphonia.
