Are BigMaps levels 56x56 tiles?

While reading NPCProgramming by stefan, I am/was puzzled by this:

My first reaction was 56x56? why not 64x64? Then I thought about the bands that shows in the editor around the level to link with others levels. At first I thought it make sense, about 4 pixels each side lost for the links. 4 to the left + 56 pixels + 4 to the right = 64.
But then, I now realized that this is the map. It probably have 1 pixel by tile, no?
So 56x56, means I would have lost 4 tiles on each side, not just 4 pixels.
That would make 4*16=64 pixels to the level… hey that’s funny, that is the number I thought there was in a level.
But I guess this is not related.

Maybe this is enough to put a NPC of 4x4 tiles on each side, that is not supposed to be on the level.

Still, this means that for converting BigMaps to GMaps, you don’t just have to redo the gmap file with the information of the bigmap file.
You have to reread all the levels and get rid of the borders, and regenerate new levels withous the boders (whatever the real size of the borders).

The map is downscaled to fit better. Don’t know why.

I doubt so.
First in https://graal.in/t/graal-reborn-logo-contest/8468/43 it is said:

I feel that part of the difficulty is this different usefull size of a level.

Secound I did use levelgenerator to try a 4x4 levels bigmap.
Because the tool is wrong I used that solution. Now when playing the level, I do get a lot of bushes that I cannot slash with my sword (something I have seen sometimes on online servers). And now, I begin to suspect that this is due to this different size between the gmap and bigmap. There is clearly a part in BigMap that is not usable, so it does make sense not to include it when passing to gmap. Maybe if one use loadmap to load a gmap, the client would use 64x64 tiles local-to-global conversion function, but then if it loaded a bigmap file through loadmap, it would use a 56x56 tiles local-to-global conversion function. This is an hypothesis.

Not writing by experience, just inspired by https://graal.in/t/sign-position/9419/2

No the bushes you can’t slash are because they are on the edge of the level. Half of the bush is on one level and the other half of it is on the adjecent level.

Levels are 56x56 pixels in the generated map image. Learn how to read, Zartox.

Even if the level warps made them smaller they would be 60x60, not 56x56 rofl

I found what is wrong with my bushes. All the bushes where my position is greater then 64 (should probably not be possible) are wrong.
Example, I press F5 and it tells me I am at 3.nw X=114.9 Y=14
The level finish at X=125.5.
Most of the time I get a x.5 value or a x.0 (0 not shown value).
It looks like I made it a gmap some way I suppose.

Here what my serveroptions.txt looks like:

and here is what my bigmap.txt.txt file looks like in world directory:

Ok, ok, I’ll removed the .txt at the end!
[/edit1]Stop client & servers, renamed bigmap.txt.txt to bigmap.txt, restarted the server, no changes.
At the lower right of 3.nw I am at 125.5, 61.[/edit1]

[edit2]Ok, I fixed things a bit more:
maps = monbig.txt
bigmap = “”,bigmap,0,0
minimap = “”,bigmap,0,0
where default/world/monbit.txt is:
“1.nw”,“2.nw”
“3.nw”,“4.nw”
Now I have:
[default] Loading maps…
[default] [bigmap] monbig.txt
on the gserver.
But it did not help. Until I erased .code file in my clients weblevels/127.0.0.1
Since that my x is never > 64… but the levels are not linked.
Guess the setmap in a script is mandatory (step 5 of the how-to make gmap), not so optional.[/edit2]

im having problems too. i cant see adjacent levels now. i’ve made functional bigmaps in mmany servers, but somehow it ain’t working on my test server. I’m using the tutorial that is in the Tuto section(forums).

Maybe until you have the links done, it does not show well.

http://www.graal.us/tools/generatelevels.html is able to generate gmaps.
Make sure Center X, Center Y is less than width and height.
Then as far as I know, removing the:
GRMAP001
WIDTH 10
HEIGHT 10
LEVELNAMES
LEVELEND
in the .gmap file, and then changing the extension to .txt file should give a good start.
This create the .nw files with only the links between the levels, but I THINK this is important for the level to show well.

I believe step 3 of http://forums.graal.in/forums/showthread.php?9-Map-Making is unclear.
In the sense that leaving blank is not exactly blank.
I tried:
setmap ,bigmap.txt,0,0
but it was ignored.
The following did fix it for me:
setmap “”,bigmap.txt,0,0

Since I fixed this, I always have my bug, which is progress!
I think it does not show other levels, but pressing M in the client does show the part you visited.
I think if I had links, it will works ok, but I did not tryed yet.
I think my X value going from 0 to 128, is because there is no links, client try to fit the two levels wide in a single level.
But as usual, I speak without having testing. I am probably wrong as usual.

Bump Bump Bump yawn

You do not need level links for GMAPs. You do need level links for Bigmaps.
