What is the point of these handheld toys? Wouldn’t people prefer their computer for old retro gaming seeing as a laptop can be just as portable? >_>
I’m talking about Dingoo, Caanoo, Wiz and whatever else there is.

fo realz. like when my room mate will play only console demos even though i tell him i can give him the full version for pc.
I don’t understand it either.
You can stick them in your pocket. Bringing around a laptop bag is unwieldy. But, I haven’t bought any of those because from what I’ve read none of them have perfect emulation of all the systems I’d want to play. I’m hoping the 3DS will get opened up in a simple way using only an SD card like you can with the Wii. That thing should have enough power for SNES emulation.

One word: Netbook.
It’s small enough to carry around, it’s only what? The size of two DS phats?
Think about it, with the netbook you’ve got very good N64 emulation (perfect as far as I was aware with some expections) and everything under is perfect.
You would be willing to drop $50-$60 for the flashcart, then $250 for a 3DS, then $10 for a larger card if you wanted that, for decent or lacking emulation? That’s already as much as a netbook. (Other than the fact 3DS will have it’s own library of games). I think I’ve even seen these things go for $200. And a lot of these portables are like $150 anyway. Emulation sucks ass on DS because of it’s processor (Which they all use the DS mode and not DSi) which only has 67 MHz ARM9 and 33 MHz ARM7. The DSi only having 133 MHz ARM9 and 33 MHz ARM7. Both suck.
Of course, were talking about being able to put it in your pocket. Which a netbook isn’t going to do but still. This is what doesn’t make any sense.
You might as well drop $50 for that FC-16, or $40 for the NES portable and just buy some cheap games or something.
Or just buy a psp. Emulate n64 and gba and etc.
I think even ds but meh. Or just build some shit O.o.
Theres no analog on a netbook silly ranter.

You’re right, honestly I forgot about an analog stick for N64 games. I always used a cheap-o Philips controller.
Emulation for N64 on PSP still isn’t anywhere near ‘Good’ but ‘Decent’. It does have a good GBA emulator though (even though Mother 3 syncs out sound during boss battles) but the SNES emulator still sucks ass for a good handful of games and development is dead for it.
Overall though, $250-$300 for a crappy netbook will do the job, even getting a crappy controller would still be fine for gaming ($10 or less for one).
I still lose with putting it in your pocket though. Other than that, I’m trying to figure out what makes people really want to pay so much. It’s like Downsider getting all horny over that Pandora thing.

It’s funny, because I have no idea what those are.

Basically under the table handhelds.

Me has dirty mind, I’m sorry about what came to mind, when I saw this… (Don’t know if I’m aloud to say them… Dildo…)
Emulation on the 3DS would just be an extra that would give more value to the system for me. I wouldn’t want to bother with flashcarts again, that’s why I would hope for a Wii-like “stick an SD card with some sort of exploit and get Homebrew Channel to easily launch emulators and whatnot from” situation. I would hope by the time that happens there would be a fair number of games I’d want for the system as well
For the most part, yes, I’d rather emulate on a PC. I keep an extra Dualshock 2 with USB adapter in my laptop bag. On my desktop I use my awesome Saturn USB for anything that doesn’t need analog and I have a TE arcade stick I need to practice with more for fighters. I’ve also spent hours and hours working on customizing the Hyperspin frontend for launching roms and PC games. I’ve got it looking pretty nice:

No not really, i use my computor more than other electronic devieces, anyway back on topic. people like portable stuff better than big stuff i guess
I like my iPhone for gaming, I had a PSP and the original DS, but I sold em when I got my iPhone. Better quality games for less money.
Except I liked playing final fantasy on my PSP, brough back memories.
I like Crisis Core even though its newer and I like the older FFs.

Merged doublepost_______________
with this generation people like “Smaller things” (not all small things, if you know what i mean though) now for some small things like (ipods, androids, and those stuff.) some of the graffics on some of those devices are good but some are crap and would be better of getting the computor verson, for example “tower defence games” i would rather go on hacked games or someother gaming website rather than paying 1 dollar to play on a smaller screen
