Legality of graal's graphics

Do graal’s graphics have some kind of copyright attached to them, making it illegal to distribute? I’m referring to the graphics that are on the playerworlds (not new stuff like kingdoms) - like the tileset, swords, bodies, ganis, heads, etc. I know they are distributed with the client and are freely available for download, but I don’t know if it’s legal for others to distribute just the plain graphics

My intentions are to use the graphics in a server, or to have the graphics available in a recode of the client. Just asking this to make sure no nazis send legal threats

Graal Online once had a disclaimer that it owned all property hosted onto it’s servers; But such a thing wouldn’t hold up in court and I believe that disclaimer has also been removed.

most content was player created, the developers of graal had nothing to do with them…

I doubt graal would be able to sue any independent server hoster for:
a) hosting a server
b) using graal graphics (new / old)

They wouldn’t make enough in court to even cover their legal fees (international court… lawyer… etc) - If they were to do this they wouldn’t make much money anyway.

Most of Graal is copyrighted content from other places and recolors of copyrighted stuff.

M’kay . .

Basically they aren’t responsible for what an individual hosts to their network . . sort of like a P2P (Peer to Peer, not Pay to Play) type deal. Atleast I think . . lol (It would be the individual’s fault. lol)

The 1,000 different colored heads/bodies/swords/shields which are all still in the same shape? lol Then again, some idiot player thought “This would look better in Green.”
Eh nevermind . . lol

Amazingly enough, this is true. Cyberjouers can’t stake any sort of claim over the FF and other anime heads. And in order to file a proper lawsuit, they would have to find evidence that they had the graphic before us. Good luck pulling those records. I really doubt Stefan was smart enough to create such logs.

All-in-all, if Stephan is stupid enough to pursue it, he’s only going to put himself in a hole. But, even still, there’s no reason to not cover our asses.

There are plenty of reasons. Like “who cares enough to sue”. The game sucks.

The problem with Stephan is that he’s overzealous in his endeavors (despite the lack of positive outcome) and would probably file out of spite.

“Stephane”

Sueing is a compensation for the fact that he has an extremely small penis.

OMG!! It’s Stephane!!! Stéphane if you want to be super cool.

!EDIT! aww Beholder always beats me to it…damn…

I won’t give the guy the gratitude of spelling his name right. =P

thank you for all the replies everyone :D. i kind of figured that the graphics pretty much belong to graal, since they’ve been using them forever (even though a lot of it are recolors, or remakes of other people’s works, or made by the players). it also makes me believe that content uploaded onto the servers running the open source graal server should be original work as well, if i were to host a server

i’d sure like to use the original tileset found in like the graal 1.29 distribution :D. i don’t think that graal can claim that work as their own

I hate that tileset. >:O So much sux!

I agree, there are more tiling errors than the current set.
