Minecraft - Epic Worldbuilding Adventure Game

Minecraft

This video shows off just what you can pull off in this thing. It’s beautiful.

So basically, the world is made of blocks you can destroy and create. Everything graphics-wise has a blocky style to it. The free classic version of it you can play on the website (if you have a fairly up to date Java installed) has single and multiplayer modes where you have unlimited blocks and you’re free to create whatever. It kind of feels like Blockland, but more versatile.

The alpha version, which costs about $13 right now, is a bit more interesting however. The single player mode in that is a survival mode where you have to destroy blocks to gather materials. You can either place those back in the world to build a house or whatever, or use them in the crafting interface to create items. The crafting is really neat. It’s a grid you place your materials in a shape resembling what you want to make. You can make tools that destroy different blocks quicker, weapons, armor, whatever. You’ll need stuff to battle the hordes of zombies, skeletons, and spiders that come out in the night (or you can just cower in your house, waiting for the sun to rise and burn them to a crisp). Watch out for the exploding creepers though, they aren’t affected by the sun.

The developer is constantly updating this game. He’s close to finishing multiplayer for the alpha, which I assume will be like the survival mode. The only thing I don’t like about this game is that, well, it’s made in Java. Even the little standalone client you can download requires it. It usually runs pretty well for me, but it uses more resources that it probably should. I’m hoping he will port the game into another language at some point.

It’s really easy to lose track of time playing this. Right now I’m just looking for cool places to build houses. Or I’m mining, trying to find more diamonds.

From the top of my second one as the moon rises:

Well the minecart is news to me.

It’s all in the pay-to-play version’s survival mode. It costs like 10 bucks once I think.

ive played Minecraft, my opinion? its one big pile of

Damnit, another Over-rated Game! I add vomit to the pile Dontar left on this.

Boats were added recently too:

I was listening to a podcast last night where Notch was talking about adding cannons you could load with any type of block. Sounds fun for multiplayer siege stuff.

The game’s very fun, especially if you are remotely creative and want to invest some time into making something impressive.

Even though this game is over-rated. I would actully risk getting a full-cracked-client. Cause im not going to pay for somthing with developers that heavily limit the demo (AKA: Classic version).

Supposedly it’s possible (the full client that is)
I remember someone bugging me for it O_o

want something to be creative better than Minecraft? The Orange Block or (when its finished) Freebuild both are better than Blockland and Minecraft COMBINED!!! insert crazy rambling here

Shhh

Garry’s Mod > All.

Garry’s mod pisses me off, always having issues getting things positioned…

After hours of repeat gameplay and investigation i say…

Seemingly addicting as it is. A closer look shows that it sucks!

I love Garry’s Mod. That game is my all time favorite. I could play that game forever.
Mods inside a Mod woot.

Nothing messes with GMOD. Not even my ragdoll posing!

Minecraft is going to hit Beta in a week or two. The Survival MP server will be released next week before the developer heads off to BIGJam. When he gets back, he will fix any bugs found and add mob support to the MP server. Once that happens, the game will hit Beta and the price will jump from 9.95 euros to 14.95 euros. Once the game is finished, it will cost 19.95 euros, so the time to purchase it for cheap is going to end soon.
