TwitchPlaysPokemon

I doubt it due to the amount of input. Also, every button press gets registered, but since it’s so much info at the same time the game itself cannot handle it, and skips some input. However when democracy is enabled, it’s vote based and the most votes for an action is being sent. Anarchy is the old mode were all input just goes directly to the emulator.

The delay has multiple factors that you have to have in mind. Person -> chatserver -> bot -> gameboy -> recorder -> streamingsoftware -> streamingserver -> output.

I doubt an irc-server would handle the stress of that massive amount of input any better than the twitch chat. (not enough to make a difference)

It’s not the message from the player that takes 20 seconds to be processed, but rather that the Streaming is off by 20 seconds, by buffering of the stream and other things done behind the scenes of the streaming software.

Well I know all that but whatever. There has to be a more efficient way, I’m certain of it.

edit: doesn’t even really matter anyway because the game works, the stream works. Don’t fix what’s not broken sort of thing. Also the overshooting the players do produces funny results more than half the time.

If you had a direct stream to the streaming source, sure. But twitch converts the stream on the fly so it can be viewed in different qualities, and depending on the source upstream the time it takes to send a HD stream from one place on the earth to another is beyond anyones control.

Yeah, it’s funny as it is. And what’s funnier is that it has been progress even though there’s a 20 second delay and hundreds of thousands of people putting input into the mix.

Also pokemon is a good choice since its mostly turn based. It lets you mash random buttons before you choose something that works.

up with anarchy

<_< It’s not laggy for me. I only have the 20 sec delay that Twitch puts on every channel.

It also answers the age old question: “is pokemon a game for noobs?”
With a staggering yes… they win fights without having real control dammit!

Still an excellent game though.

yes, completing the original storyline is pretty much designed for children to be able to do. However, a child can’t beat the Super Single Train in Black2/White2 no matter how much they want to. There’s a lot of stuff in the new games that is designed to only be beatable if you know exactly what you are doing and optimize your team.

also the lag we’re referring to is exactly that 20s. I was just curious as to if it was even remotely possible to fix. I’m able to live with it so it’s not a real problem for me. But I see people bitching about it all the time on other forums so I’m starting to get sick of hearing about it.

No, there’s nothing you can do about the 20 s delay.

You can type in your move then close your eyes for 20 seconds and pretend no time is passing

I don’t even understand why you guys are answering. Not to be a dick but I never asked a new question.

I just wanted to make that clear for anyone else(cough) that reads this thread. It wasn’t a reply directed at you, silly goose.

This stream is a major center for Cancer. It’s a really simple concept too. I’d rather watch somebody play and commentate.

Well…wow…this sums up the whole thing pretty damn well. (I didn’t find this, credit goes to bigfoot on graalians). They’ve been in the pokemon mansion all day and I think they’re going to lose a whole day’s progress through poison :frowning:

There are plenty much older than that doing it, I’m sure.

I don’t think the gif suggests its only kids, but rather the mentality going on AND the video matched how they felt about it. :stuck_out_tongue:

they just hit Victory Road guys

Apparently they’re 90 minutes away from beginning Pokemon Emerald.

I lost interest after the conclusion of the first TwitchPlaysPokemon. It was an interesting experiment, but now that we know they can do it, it’s not that interesting of an experiment anymore.

well after the first one was done, the memes turned into garbage. Nobody was naming things originally anymore, and insisted that the first pidgey they find would be Jesus again

also the democracy was forced harder in Gen II than it was in Gen I, so everything was done slowly but surely. Nobody wants to watch that shit. It was fun watching things get done that you weren’t sure were ever going to get done due to the randomness of the hivemind.

anyway TPP a shit
