Using The Gimp

So whenever I need to do a custom image myself, I use the Gimp, since it’s familiar and
powerful. However, when working with Graal’s images, whenever I save the file, something
screws up with transparency and the outline is gone, or all the pure white or pure black on
the image is gone. It always seems to assume there’s more transparent pixels than there are,
and it gets on my nerves having to fix it by adding a repeat colour to the pallet, converting
all the original colour to that one, and then resaving it.

Is there some better way to do this in Gimp? Or is there a better (non-photoshop) program to
do this with?

Personally, I prefer Paint Shop Pro (version 7 or 8) for dealing with low resolution graphics. And it’s super easy to do Graal stuff in, too.

In the words of our very own Beholder, transparency in 100% black is a failsafe method. Try using the color replacement tool ^_^.

Fought with it for twenty minutes and in the end I had to save it as a .png ><

Oh well, thank you for the suggestions. I’ll try PSP and see if it’s better than Gimp.

GIMP is a good light-weight program, though it’s pretty hard to use at first.
