Recently, I was looking up information to Secret of Evermore for SNES. I was always really fond of the game, but it struck me as a game which didn’t fit the mold of the others of its style. There were reasonable explanations for that (it was American made and the music was more ambiance than most video games).
In my research I stumbled a upon a blog which told that SOE originally had a dark, almost disturbing storyline. So dark that they had to change the games dialogue qutie substantially.
The most disturbing thing I found in the blog, and I guess most people did too, was this business about a guy named Ed Kann who supposedly wrote for the game and was fired due to the dark nature of the dialogue he wrote (if you look at the blog there was a pre-release screenshot with one of the characters in the game saying, “How can you live with what you’ve done? Those poor children…”). Ed Kann supposedly wrote a story called The Noises Coming from Inside Children however, search results on the internet turn up no such story.
There are little snippets of information that says this story exists, but one of the creators of SOE has come out and said no one named Ed Kann ever worked on SOE.
Regardless, the existence of this short story “The Noises Coming from Inside Children” has become an urban legend and you’ll find small pockets of people on the internet looking for it. I kind of hope it does exist because the name is creepy enough.
(Here is a supposed review of the short story: http://whoisedkann.blogspot.com/2010/11/first-piece-of-evidence-review-of-noise.html)
Anyway, I was wondering if any one else knows of any Video Game Urban legends? I really got a kick out of this one and it would neat to see if anyone else has any.
The original Starcraft 1 wasn’t nearly as good as the one we have as the final product. It was originally going to be “Orcs in Space,” kinda. It ran on the Warcraft 2 engine and wasn’t all that bad. It just wasn’t all that original and they didn’t want “Orcs in Space.”
That’s the best one I can think of. I didn’t know about SoE being that dark. Would’ve kept me more entertained than the current weak plot.
To be honest I didn’t know what Creepypastas were until now. I suppose I did mean that to an extent, that seems to fit my original post. I was wonder, though also, if there were any other general myths about video games that you guys new of, like Mario drug references and the such.
Oh yeah, there is Ben Drowned, too. I forgot about that one. It’s considered creepypasta and urban legend. Everyone knows about it though, and it’s a hacked ROM so I wont bother posting it.
edit: I just thought of this one. It’s from FFXII concerning the director of the entire Final Fantasy series leaving.
Yiazmat’s name is a reference to director Yasumi Matsuno’s nickname (Yazumi Matsuno). The additional “i” in Yiazmat’s name is not present in the Japanese version, likely being a localization decision to associate it closer to “Tiamat”.
Farewell to a Legend?
The title of the hunt is “Farewell to a Legend”, a reference to how Matsuno left the company before the game was completed, and the story Montblanc tells is a reference to how the development team felt about him, albeit with a different end.
Another theory is that Yiazmat is the game’s depiction of Matsuno, and that the moogles being the development team, and their master being Square Enix. Matsuno prolonging the game killed Square Enix “financially” and the development team felt Matsuno had to be slain as retribution for his actions. The hunt title basically says “Farewell” to a Legendary monster - Yiazmat - both being an homage and an insult to the director.
I know this is a bit on the funny side. However, since you gracefully gave no context I must ask: is this video related to Blue and his/her Ratacate?

No, but that video is based on the rumor.
