haha, father just had problems with his hp a few months ago due to overheating and my gf’s hp laptop only works after you leave it running for an hour wrapped in a towel.
Yeah every HP laptop I’ve owned (too bad it’s was only two, 2006 and now) and they both have/had overheating problems. There’s less than 2mm of space between any surface and the intake fan, they really don’t know how to design proper cooling. Edit: They can be beastly and pretty powerful sometimes, though.
Holy shit, that processor is hot for idling… It is an Ivy Bridge which are well known for their heating problems. Saw a sweet video of a guy who fixed his, though.
Haha, I remember having to do that towel thing with my Xbox 360 before it’s graphics card melted a few years ago. Once it gets to that point, it’s not even worth fixing. People seriously doubt the benefits of re-doing thermal paste, and actually using your laptop on a hard surface, though. I had an HP for two years, but I didn’t have the knowledge or money to fix it when I owned it, but keeping it on a metal plate made it stay at only 65ºC when playing Minecraft or using a web browser. It’s so nice looking over at Coretemp and seeing that my processor is always 10ºC - 15ºC unless I’m playing a game.
Seriously, almost always the design is not the issue. It’s the cheap fucking thermal paste, or the fact that it’s dirty (extreme cases) on the inside. Companies save millions of dollars by using cheap shit, and sometimes they don’t even use thermal paste, they use fake heat absorbing pads.
Wow, nice work by him. I’ll pass though, can’t see that ending well for me… I’m not too concerned about the temps, with Prime95 it does reach 80°C, but that’s 25°C under Tj Max, so well within spec. Oh and I am on the stock cooler since I’m undecided about which route to go with an aftermarket one. This thing’s like a pancake..
I’d probably recommend water cooling. If I had any heating issues with my processor, this would be the one I’d get myself. Possibly some others on the site for a better price, but this one works the best in my opinion. Microcenter has got some of the best god damn deals.
h100i is good, think you can get it on amazon or newegg for cheaper though.
Ah cool, if I ever decide to overclock, I’ll probably get something like that.
Shame they don’t ship to Australia
On average $150 is what it costs here.
I paid for everything on my own. I deliver papers twice a week, sell mentos and do other work. Sure they’re not real jobs, but they’re enough to pay for some nice stuff. I don’t beg off my parents for anything, my parents wouldn’t stand for that shit. You seem quite jealous, but I’m sure welfare and child support from your dad could pay for a PC like mine.
oh wow, even amazon? tbh don’t really blame them considering it costs a shit ton to ship to australia - usually around $50 but sometimes as high as $70.
Yep, well for electronics anyway. It’s the same with many American sites. Shipping is expensive but prices are often so much cheaper over there it doesn’t matter. When I bought my Lenovo laptop, I used a mail forwarding service and still ended up saving around $500 compared to the au website…
Good that you know your shit, Australia unfortunately gets ripped off a lot with hardware and software… Actually had this conversation with tricxta last night.
I just ordered a GTX 780, but Graal’s “”""""""""“lights”"""""""""" will probably still lag.
yep!
I rewired my cables and removed the stupid plastic gromit thingy

It’s really nothing special, but I get 30 FPS in BF3 at low-mid settings on 720p. I’m hoping that I can do a $500-$600 upgrade after Christmas, because I’m a bit tired of playing at low resolutions.
